SUNGLASSES

The sun is the celestial mother to every creature on Earth.
Every
creature on Earth depends on her heat and light. With out her everything
would parish in a cold, uninhabitable dark. Yet, the sun is a
double-edged sword. While it is essential to life, it is also takes
life. One type of light the sun produces is the, ultra violet light.
Ultra violet light or UV light is known to cause damage to the skin.
That’s why people put on sunscreen. UV light can also do damage to the
eyes. It would be--------for people to put sunscreen on their eyes. The
solution is to wear a pair of fashionable and functional sunglasses.
Wearing sunglasses while in the sun can protect people from the two
different types of UV light: UV-A light and UV-B light. UV-A light can
cause several kinds of disorders in the eye. Some disorders occur right
away. They are short-term disorders. While others take a lifetime to
develop. They are known as long-term disorders. Photoheratitis, a
short-term disorder, occurs when the surface of the eyeball has been
burned. This is only temporary, but extremely painful. A long-term
disorder that UV-A light can bring about is cataracts. Cataracts is when
the lens of the eye clouds over, eventually causing blindness.
Currently 20 million Americans are effected by cataracts by age forty,
and by age eighty approximately half of Americans have been effected.
Just wearing sunglasses while they are outside long enough to get a tan
reduces the risk of cataracts developing in people’s eyes greatly. Other
eye disorders that can be reduced or eliminated by wearing sunglasses
are cancer of the eyelid and growth on the eyeball. Skiers, hunters,
sailors and fishermen are at a higher risk of developing these disorders
because they are out in the sun a lot. If they do not have a pair of
sunglasses they should get one as soon as possible.
