BLOOD PRESSURE
Blood Pressure
Have you had your blood pressure taken recently? One should get their
blood pressure taken every so often just to make sure one does not have
to go get a checkup. Many people have high blood pressure due to years
of smoking, stress, drinking, lack of exercise, or even after giving a
speech. Blood pressure refers to the force of blood pushing against
artery walls as it courses through the body. Blood pressure can be read
by two numbers, have certain symptoms, but there are things to do to
avoid the risk or after being affected.
Furthermore, high and low certain numbers can diagnose blood pressure.
High blood pressure is usually around 140/90 and low blood pressure is
usually around 90/60. The first number stands for systolic pressure,
the pressure where the heart contracts and pumps the blood through the
body. The bottom number stands for diastolic pressure, the pressure
between pumps, when your heart is resting.
In addition to numbers, some symptoms include headaches, nosebleeds,
excessive perspiration, and muscle cramps. Other causes are kidney or
thyroid disease. Men are more likely to have high blood pressure than
women however. If left untreated, high blood pressure patients are
seven times more likely to have a stroke, six times more likely to
develop a congestive heart failure, and three times more likely to have a
heart attack (How to Keep…).
Although these are some symptoms, here are some suggestions to avoid
the risk of high blood pressure. To take care of yourself after being
affected by it get your blood pressure checked regularly. Stop smoking,
avoid excessive salt intake, eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, and
foods high in fiber…and less fat all do well with high blood pressure.
