ROMAN ARMY
The Roman Army was a fierce army and no one could defeat
them. They had
many new tactics that other people have never even heard of. They were
ahead of their time and got some of their ideals from the Greeks.
The roman Army was divided into two groups. The first was legions and
the second was the auxilium. The legions were the main group that fought
and the auxiliaries helped out the legions. The two groups fought the
battles together. In the army there were about 160,000 legionaries and
about 140,00 auxiliaries. The army just did not fight they also helped
build roads, digging ditches, repairing boots, and building other
equipment. When the army would camp at night they would build a fort
even if they were just staying one night. The soldiers would train all
day long if they were not building equipment or fighting.
The Roman Soldiers would fight with two seven foot spears and a two
foot sword. When they would throw the spears and they would stick in the
enemies shield the tip would bend or break off so the enemy could not
use them. They used the short sword for stabbing the enemy and not
thrust and cut. They did this because there was not enough room in hand
to hand combat. The soldiers would wear linen under vest if it was cold.
They wore a bronze helmet and a leather skull cap to protect their
heads. They wore upper body armor to protect them for stab wounds but
nothing on their legs because it would slow them down. They also had a
rectangle shield to protect them from the enemies weapons.
The Roman Army was a well trained army that was very difficult to
defeat. They were willing to win and would not give up if they failed.
